Motion Control – Linear Focus Actuator from Equipment Solutions!

Motion Control – Linear Focus Actuator

Equipment Soultions

Forestville, CA – The LFA-1205 Linear Focus Actuator is a high performance compact positioning system.  It was specifically developed for optical applications requiring both high precision and high-speed positioning over a short to medium stroke.  The LFA-1205 is well suited for optical focusing and other micropositioning applications such as scanning interferometry, surface structure analysis, disk drive testing, autofocus systems, confocal microscopy, bio-technology, semiconductor test equipment.  Note that this motor is normally configured with an analog position feedback sensor and can be optionally equipped with a digital quadrature feedback element.    The key to this products immense success is its novel tubular architecture.  This arrangement provides a means to send the optical path directly through the middle of the motor.  The moving optic attached to the motors ‘C-mount’ is not cantilevered and so has no torques.  The LFA-1205 Linear Focus Actuator is directly compatible with the SCA814 Servo Controlled Amplifier.

  • 12 Millimeter clear aperture
  • 5 millimeters of linear motion
  • <50 nanometer positioning repeatability
  • Small Step Response of <1 millisecond
  • Threaded lens mount 70 x 70 x 50 millimeters, 600 grams

By design, the LFA-1205 Linear Focus Actuator rotates approximately 0.1 degrees or 1.7 milliradians for every 1 millimeter of translation.  Through manufacturing tolerances only there can be a small amount of pitch and roll motion that is induced during the intended translation.  These small but real error sources are routinely characterized during the manufacturing process  using our AC400 Digital Autocollimator to control product uniformity.

Motion Control – Dual Axis Linear Motion Stepper Motors!

H2W Technologies Dual Axis Air Bearing Stepper Stage

H2W Logo

Santa Clarita, CA — Automation Motion Control – Linear Motion — H2W Technologies’ dual axis linear motion stepper motors are ideal for open loop positioning applications requiring 2 axis of motion in a single plane. They can perform at speeds of up to 80 in/sec [2 m/sec] and strokes of up to 20 in x 30 in [0.5 m x 0.75 m]. Linear stepper motors are capable of very precise position, velocity, and acceleration control when coupled with a micro-stepping drive and indexer.

The moving assembly called the “forcer” is supported by magnetically preloaded air bearings that are imbedded in the active surface of the forcer. The bearings are designed to support the customer’s payload and to maintain the required 0.0005 in to 0.0010 in [12 to 25 micron] gap between the platen and the forcer.

The step and direction signal for each linear motion axis comes from two separate micro-stepping drives (2 or 4 phase). A 2 axis indexer is required to send step and direction signals to the drivers. For 2 phase motors, the full step is 0.010 in [250 microns] and for 4 phase motors the full step is 0.005 in [125 microns]. With micro-stepping, resolutions in the order of 0.5 to 1 micron are achievable.

The dual axis linear stepper motor is a complete 2 axis, single plane air bearing positioning system with the motor, the bearings, and the positioning system all built into one compact package. Integrating linear encoders with the stepper motor allows for a hybrid, closed loop positioning system.

Advantages:

  • Low profile and small cross section
  • High Speed
  • No servo tuning required
  • Multiple forcers on a single platen

Applications:

  • Pick and Place
  • Wire bonders
  • Parts transfer
  • Fiber optic

H2W Technologies, Inc. is dedicated to the design and manufacture of linear and rotary motion products that are used in the motion control industry. The complete line of linear electric motors includes: Single and dual axis linear steppers, DC brush and brushless linear motors, voice coil actuators, and AC induction motors. Also offered is a complete line of ball screw, lead screw and belt driven positioning stages.
