(OES) is a low profile, compact 183.7 mm x 80 mm x 38 mm x 42mm (raised), (7.232in x 3.150 in. x 1.496 x 1.654 in.) low cost, high resolution, wedge type, vertical elevator stage for applications requiring precise vertical positioning. The 60 mm x 95 mm (2.362 in. x 3.740 in.) drilled and tapped stage has a vertical travel of 4 mm (0. 157 In.). Six crossed roller guides and a precision ground 8 mm dia. 250 µm/turn lead ball screw provides smooth, straight (straightness to <5 µm) vertical motion, and parallelism (<20 µm to the mounting surface), and high resolutions to 1.25 µm (full step), 0.625 µm (1/2 step), and 0.125 µm (1/10 micro step), and repeatability to +/- 0.5 µm. Travel speeds are up to 2.5 mm/sec.

The AZ60 – A Elevator Stage is constructed of black-anodized aluminum alloy and weighs just 1.14 kg (2.51lbs). A powerful 35 mm NEMA 14 1.8O 2-phase stepper motor has a double ended shaft with a knob for manual adjustments. This knob may be replaced with a quadrature encoder for position verification. The non-cantilevered moving wedge elevator stage has a load capacity of 7 kg (15.43 lbs) without concern for loss of parallelism, and the base plate has easy to access holes for mounting.

Santa Clarita, CA —- – Linear Motion Positioning Stage — H2W Technologies introduces a high acceleration, brushless linear motor driven, XZ positioning stage gantry for controlled dual axis motion profiles of customer supplied payloads. The vertical axis dual rail stage (DRS) is a closed loop positioning system that can be used for high force positioning applications. The horizontal axis single rail stage (SRS) is a closed loop positioning system that can be used for low to medium force positioning applications. The stages are driven by brushless linear motors, guided by precision recirculating linear ball bearing blocks and rails. Each axis incorporates 1 micron resolution linear encoders. Dual shock absorbing dampers are incorporated into the stage to protect the stage and payload in the event of power failure. The dual axis system can also be supplied with fully integrated electronics to operate the stage under synchronized dual axis motion control. Brushless linear motor driven positioning stage gantries are ideal for applications that precision controlled synchronized motion profiles of customer payloads.

The vertical axis has a 13.8 in [350.5 mm] stroke; and generates 167 lbs [743 N] of force at 100% duty and 501 lbs [2224 N] of force at 10% duty. The horizontal axis has a 4 in [101.6 mm] stroke; and generates 50 lbs [222 N] of force at 100% duty and 150 lbs [666 N] of force at 10% duty.

The 75 mm/rev (2.953 in/rev) precision lead scews can move in the X and Y axes at up to 1 m/sec (39.370 in/sec) and X and Y axis travel are 300 mm x 300mm (11.811 in. x 11.811in.) This low profile gantry is just 141.5 mm (5.571 in.) high. The table top measures 380 mm x 380 mm (14.961 in. x 14.961 in.)

Available motor mounts include NEMA 17 and NEMA 23 mounts for steppers or servo motors with encoders. Constructed using a strong extruded alumiunm frame, the dual X axes design, and 4 precision leadscrews provides ± 50 microns of repeatability on axis. Santa Clarita, CA —– H2W Technologies’ latest single rail positioning stage H-gantry design is an open frame XY positioning system. It has two bottom parallel axes with one cross axis connecting the two (H-gantry).

Each linear axis uses H2W’s brushless linear motors (BLDM-B04), and each has a total stroke length of 25.67 in [652 mm]; can generate 6.2 lbs [27.8 N] of continuous force and 18.7 lbs [83.3 N] of peak force, or a combined 12.4 lbs [55.6 N] continuous force and 37.4 lbs [166.6 N] of peak force on the bottom axis. The non-contact 1-micron resolution encoders allow for precise positioning. The moving tables are guided by a precision recirculating linear ball bearing system.

The linear axes are assembled on a single piece of aluminum extrusion, thus reducing the overall weight of the system. The top cross axis is mounted to the bottom parallel axis using rigid aluminum extrusions, 90-degree right angle gussets, and custom extrusion end plates. The system is mounted to a flat aluminum tooling plate base. There are also provisions that allow customer cables to be routed within the cable carriers. It has end-of-travel rubber bumper stops.

Additional options include, a home positioning sensor, end-of-travel-sensors, and custom mounting holes. Single extrusion length of up to 6 m long, allows for longer stroke applications.

Philadelphia, PA, — Motion Control Components and Systems – Repeatability and accuracy are essential characteristics of any motion control system, and the objective of the design is to assure the desired trajectories can accurately follow through the working range of the system.

In traditional XY gantry designs upper gantry member (Y axis) is carried by two identical bottom axes (X1 and X2). Each X1 and X2 axes motor/screw/bearing systems are separated by finite distance orthogonal to the direction of the axes.

INTELLIGENT ACTUATORS can easily “talk over” USB 2.0, Ethenet, RS232, RS485 interfaces and come with powerful yet easy to use software packages. for system start-up and integration, like communication drivers, linkable DLL libraries, National Instruments Labview drivers and VI examples, GUI and easy-to-use DXF conversion software.

Due to the manufacturing precision of the components, such as linear guides deflections, ball screw lead errors, axes misalignment, the variation of the position errors in X1 and X2 axes controllers, XY gantries orthogonality is affected. As Y-axis with load traverses across XY plane, it also introduces X axes position errors that are Y axis position dependent.

The current approach to this design challenge is to implement 2-D position error mapping or suspend Y axis on the flexible members (flexures) and to independently control X1 and X2 axes to assure orthogonality. This approach reduces system bandwidth and provides small range of angle adjustment, usually within not more than 1 degree.

There are also many applications, where large THETA angle is an INTENTIONAL FEATURE of the system design (X-Y-THETA) to allow alignment of the work tool to the non-orthogonally located objects or to align patterns.

Aided by exoskeletons, they will compete against each other on an obstacle course to show the public how far advanced technology has come in this area.

The Cybathlon games are organized by the ETH Zürich and are being held for the first time on October 8, 2016 at the Swiss Arena in Zürich. Around 80 teams from all over the world will be participating. The machine-assisted competitors will compete against one another in six disciplines: prosthetic legs, prosthetic arms, exoskeletons, motorized wheelchairs, bicycles with muscle stimulation, and virtual racing using thought control. What’s not allowed at the Paralympics is an absolute must at the Cybathlon: the use of state-of-the-art technology. “Our aim with the Cybathlon is to break down barriers between the general public, people with disabilities, and scientists,” says ETH professor Robert Riener, who invented the Cybathlon.

Santa Clarita, CA — – Motion Control – H2W introduces a fully vacuum compatible four axis positioning robot (XYθZ). The XY axes are driven by brushless linear motor DR Positioning Stages. The θ axis is a worm gear stage that is driven by a rotary stepper motor under closed loop control in conjunction with an arc-segmented linear encoder. The Z axis linear motion is achieved by using a voice coil positioning stage operating under closed loop position control. The four axes operate under synchronized position control in conjunction with a non-contact analog output position feedback device that is used to control the position with respect to a silicon wafer. The stage includes a fully integrated four axis electronics package that allow each axis to operate under closed loop control.

All components were selected for their low outgassing characteristics and the system was designed to fit within a customer designed vacuum chamber. This motion control robot was designed to perform secondary processing procedures on a silicon wafer while exposed to a vacuum.

The XY axes are driven by three-phase brushless linear motors and are guided by a pair of precision recirculating linear ball bearings. The stage has a (XYθZ) 6″ [152 mm] x 6″ [152 mm] x 20° x 1″ [25 mm] stroke, generates (XYθZ) 20 lbs [88 N] x 20 lbs [88 N] x 10 N-m x 10 lbs [44 N] of continuous force, and (XYθZ) 60 lbs [264 N] x 60 lbs [264 N] x 10 N-m x 30 lbs [132 N] of peak force. The linear axis resolution is 0.2 microns and the rotary axis resolution is 0.29 arc-seconds.
