Van Nuys, CA – — Motion Control – OES (Optimal-Engineering Systems, Inc.) has added a new, larger, high load, precision stage to it’s extensive line of precision XY stages. The AU200-170×170 stage is a low profile stage measuring just 108 mm (2.252 in) high with a compact footprint (including the motors) of 458.5 mm x 458.5 mm (18.032 in.) The linear travel of the X and Y axes is 170mm x 170mm (6.692 in.), and the resolution of each axis is 20 microns (non-micro-step) or 1 micron (20 micro-steps per step motor driver in use), repeatability is 2 microns, and the positional accuracy is 3 microns. The 4 mm per-turn lead screws have just 2 microns of backlash and the stages have preloaded V-groove and crossed roller bearings contributing to the high precision and stiffness of the AU200-170×170 Stage. Designed for applications such as: alignment, assembly, laser drilling, machining, medical, industrial, semiconductor handling, testing, scanning, and optical applications, this compact, low profile black anodized aluminum XY stage is easy to integrate into new or existing systems.

The XY stage’s table measures 300 mm x 300 mm (11.8 in x 11.8 in.) and features a precision pattern of drilled and threaded mounting holes to facilitate the addition of tooling or fixtures. Additionally a table with a large open aperture is also available.

The standard two-phase (1.8o) stepper motors have knobs for manual adjustments of each axis of the stage, however, the knobs can be replaced with incremental encoders for position verification or closed loop operation. As an option, servo motors and compatible motion controllers are also available from OES, or the AU200-170×170 Stage can be ordered as a complete plug-and-play motion control system.

Maxon is expanding its family of EPOS4 products with two new EtherCAT Compact controllers (24/1.5 and 50/5). Dual loop control simultaneously controls motor and load feedback for optimum performance within the system. The EPOS Studio software ensures the minimum possible set-up times with its automatic Regulation Tuning feature.

Condition monitoring for added value

However, the EPOS4 has many additional capabilities: for example, the controller continuously delivers hundreds of data points about the drive system for online condition monitoring and transmits this data to a higher-level system via CANopen or EtherCAT in real time. This supports complex predictive maintenance systems that anticipate impending failures to avoid costly repairs, resulting in higher productivity and lower cost.

Motion Control – Low Profile XY Voice Coil Positioning Stage

Santa Clarita, CA —– Motion Control – H2W Technologies introduces a high acceleration, voice coil driven, XY positioning stage with a precision bearing system, which minimizes the amount of pitch, yaw, and roll in the system. The voice coil stage (VCS06-010-BS-01-MXY) is a closed loop positioning system that can be used for positioning applications. The stage utilizes a custom low-profile design that utilizes a unique electromagnetic circuit design. The motor has a two-axis planar coil assembly that interacts with a common magnetic circuit. This circuit design allows for a minimal overall height of 2.085 inches [53 mm]. Each axis has a 0.62″ [15.8 mm] stroke; generate 0.75 lbs [3.3 N] of continuous force and 2.25 lbs [10 N] of peak force.

Each axis is guided by precision linear ball slide assemblies. It includes a one-micron resolution magnetic linear encoder on each axis. This design utilizes a moving coil, which has a lower moving mass that enables the highest possible acceleration. Voice coil positioning stages are ideal for applications that require quick, short moves with fast settling times.
