Santa Clarita, CA —– Motion Control – This hybrid air bearing XZ positioning system uses H2W air bearing linear stepper motor STS-1220-AP4T (horizontal axis) and voice coil positioning stage VCS05-060-LB-01-MH (vertical Z-axis). The horizontal Air Bearing Linear Stepper motor has a 38.0 in [965 mm] stroke and generates 12.0 lbs [53.1 N] of continuous force. It is guided by precision roller bearings along the platen. Integral air bearings are used to maintain the required motor air gap.

Industrial Safety — Omron introduces the safety Gotcha Stick Safe Distance Scale. This safe distance stick accurately tests the allowable barrier opening size based on the distance from the point of operation. It features English measurements on one side, and Metric measurements on the other.

Although not officially adopted by OSHA, the safety “Gotcha Stick” is based on data from “A Review of Machine-Guarding Recommendations,” by Donald R. Vaillancourt and Stover H. Snook of the Liberty Mutual Research Center for Health & Safety. This data redefines the dimensions of the human arm for the purposes of machine guarding. The resulting new stick has been modified to include openings of less than 1/4 inch over the first 1/2 inch distance.

Guarding machinery by means of hard (fixed) barriers is one of the main ways of protecting personnel from point-of-operation hazards. The safety “Gotcha Stick” is the easiest means of verifying that openings in hard guarding will not allow the point-of-operation to be accessed by the operator.

The Ethernet IP Marquee has a built in WEB server, eliminating the need to install software to program the marquee sign. Setup of the display is as simple as opening a WEB browser on your computer and entering the IP address of the marquee sign. With its fully integrated package, the Ethernet IP Marquee allows the user to configure and broadcast plc data and message information without programming communication blocks within the ladder logic code of the plc.

The product’s innovation allows the user to set up the functionality of the marquee sign and simply connect to the Rockwell plc. The messages displayed on the marquee can be alarms, machine performance, or production data. These messages are selected and displayed through internal registers from the plc. The format of these registers can be any combination of bits, words, or strings. The Ethernet IP Marquee has an additional ethernet port built into the marquee sign. This second port gives the marquee the flexibility to broadcast information to any computer on the plant network through the web server. This computer can monitor production data and collect real time information from the plant floor by simply entering the IP address of the marquee.

Also, third party spreadsheets can be used to monitor and store the information broadcasted by the marquee sign. With no software to install, the Ethernet IP Marquee stands alone as the new innovative way for a marquee sign to communicate on the Rockwell Ethernet/IP network.

New Innovative Technology
JVL closed-loop integrated stepper motors, QuickStep®, provide higher torque, faster acceleration, torque control, stall free operation and quieter movements than traditional step motor systems. QuickStep do this with greater efficiency and less motor heating because motor phase current are regulated up and down according to need. Performance of JVL closed-loop steppers are similar to servo motors, but with higher torque and often without need of gearbox, resulting in a more inexpensive solution. Design safety factors have always been high for stepper motors to ensure stall-free operation – now with QuickStep closed-loop control design can be very close to the limit resulting in even lower costs. QuickStep is a true closed-loop control system that compensates step angle errors during a movement and correct errors within a full step. If load becomes too high speed is lowered and position errors will always stay within two full-steps. Smart digital design and very high update rates (36 MHz) means there is no need of any manual adjustment or setup. It works like a perfect stepper motor benefitting from the servo motor technology.
100% Automatic Setup No need to adjust any parameters. JVL closed-loop stepper motors always work fast and efficient to adapt motor to application. Extremely high update frequency: 36 MHz (where other suppliers have down to only 1 Hz update time). Calculations are made in FPGA and not in slow microprocessors.
Energy Saving Like servo motors QuickStep always runs at lowest possible current. This reduces the need for cooling and results in a more “green” solution.
Stall-Free Operation And No Losing Of Steps By always monitoring the actual rotor position, the control algorithm ensures that the motor does not lose any steps and it cannot stall. If the rotor is blocked mechanically it just continues right away when the obstruction is removed.
Torque Control Mode The torque can be adjusted “on the fly” by the user or by the motor’s embedded PLC program. Applications that were previously impossible for a stepper motor can now be achieved.
Higher Acceleration & Speed Stall-free operation means you do not need to worry about setting the motor to a very high acceleration ramp. The motor simply moves the load with the highest possible acceleration at any given time. The result is a much faster machine with more cycles per day.
Factory Loaded Linearization The motor and encoder are calibrated during factory production in order to reach a very high mechanical precision.
Older Motors Are Supported The Closed-loop control mode is backward compatible with older motors equipped with H2-type encoders. By updating the firmware, the user’s application can benefit from the stall-free operation with very high accelerations and lower power consumption.
Full Torque Available The motor is capable of using the full torque according to the torque-velocity curve and therefore the need to have a safety overhead when dimensioning the machine is much less. Smaller motor = lower costs.

  • Direct drive without gearbox (better and more precise torque control)
  • Correct positioning without overshoot
  • No oscillation
  • Very short settling time
